Dear Parent/guardian

Parent Meetings-Primary
Parent Meetings take place on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th November. All parents should soon be receiving an appointment to see their child’s class teacher/s. If you are unable to attend these dates and would like an alternative appointment please contact the school. This year pupil’s work will be displayed in the hall for your perusal along with a powerpoint presentation consisting of photographs of children participating in various activities within the school. We ask if you could come along approx 10mins prior to your appointment to view the above and then take your own child’s tray along with you to your meeting with the class teacher.
Parent Council Open Meeting
There will be a parent council open meeting on Tuesday 10th November at 6.30pm. All welcome. A huge ‘thankyou’ to all regular attendees and to those members keen to take forward initiatives within the school.
New Website
This month marks the launch of our new website at: www.mallaigprimary.com Please take a look and give us your feedback. You will find a competition on the site with a prize for both adults and children who put forward the best suggestions for what you would like to see on the site. We thank Christopher Lemons who designed and will be maintaining the site.
Body Currents Workshop
All classes recently enjoyed participating in dance work-shops as part of the body currents initiative.
Leighanne taught the children African dance moves among others and she will be returning periodically for more workshops which will lead to a final performance during the summer term.
Eco-school Update
On Friday 2nd October the Eco-group planted flowers into the walled garden and the ‘outdoor classroom’ zone was created.
Target Diaries
We have introduced a new target setting diary for each child which will be discussed in school and at home with both personal and academic targets being set. Some targets will be set at school and some should be set at home. There is an explanatory page to give you some ideas for you to discuss with your child. The diaries will be issued at the beginning of the week along with their homework and should be returned completed at the end of the week. Hopefully we can work together to assist the children to reach their goals. Target and aims will be reviewed at the end of the term.
Supergrounds
Following the last meeting an action plan has now been drawn up and targets set. Toni (the Supergrounds co-ordinator) will be attending our assembly on Friday 13th November to discuss ideas with the children. We congratulate Jenna MacDonald, Emily Brown and Mel MacKenzie who raised in excess of £30 for the Supergrounds project. Jenna and Emily performed Highland dancing with Mel accompanying them on her violin. Well done girls! The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 18th November at 6.30pm.
Healthy Tuckshop
Our healthy tuckshop has been very successful so far and we intend to continue with this trial. Unfortunately however, due to the initial cost outlay we need to charge 20p for a ‘poke’ of dried fruit and 30p for a ‘poke’ of fresh fruit. Please continue to encourage your child to support this venture.
It’s A Knockout!
The school have put forward a team for the local ‘It’s A Knockout’ tournament in the Swimming Pool on Sat 14th November 2pm – 6pm. We have 2 adults and 3 children participating so far but require an extra adult if possible. If you are interested, and are a competent swimmer with a sense of humour, please get in touch! Spectators are very welcome so please support the community by going along to watch this event.
Soup and Sandwiches
The Fishermen’s Mission will be serving soup and sandwiches on Saturday 14th Nov to raise funds for the Erskine Hospital for Injured Soldiers. There will also be various stalls and any donations of baking or bric-a-brac will be very much appreciated. Please take time to pop along in support of this worthy cause.
Christmas Play
We will be performing our Christmas Play on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th December. Tickets will be available soon and cost £3 adult, £2 child/OAP. Further details along with costume requirements will also be issued soon.
If you have any queries regarding any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Yours sincerely
Morag Martin
HEAD TEACHER/CEANNARD
