January Supergrounds Meeting Update
Latest News from the January Supergounds Meeting.
January the 20th saw the latest gathering of the Supergrounds committee at Mallaig Primary School. The meeting was scheduled to discuss the latest developments on the Supergrounds project and to establish how we will be going forward.
Progress updates were given on the first phase of the project, which include the construction of an outdoor classroom, new line markings and goal posts for the playground, repairing of the basketball nets, and a program of planting for various areas of the school.
With regards to the outdoor classroom the meeting was informed that Hamish Smith was in the process of drawing up plans for the shelter, which is set to include a seating area, storage facilities, and a small stage for performing. The plans for this have since been delivered to the school and look fantastic - many thanks to Hamish for his hard work!
Angus MacIntyre has very kindly been liasing with both Travis Perkins in Fort William, and the Forestry Commision in order to secure materials for the construction of the goal posts and seating for the outdoor classroom. The wood for the goal posts has subsequently been delivered and John from the High school is organising their construction and installation - many thanks to him for his hard work. Angus has also secured a new wheel barrow from Travis Perkins which will prove very useful with all the hard work to come! The line marker and paint have also been secured, and as soon as we have a dry spell of weather arrives we will be painting both a football and netball court in the playground.
The children have been busy moving tyres into the playground to serve as temporary boundaries for the various areas we intend to introduce. Mrs Kordiak and the Eco group are busy planning the planting program, and along with the £250 they recieved from the Eco Schools program they have also very kindly been given £100 from the parent council to spend on bulbs.
The next phase is to cost and build the outdoor classroom which will hopefully take place in the near future.
Many thanks again to all those involved with the Supergrounds Project, and to all those pupils whose hard work is beginning to pay off. More updates to follow!
